Profile
Parenting & raising children in a foreign country becomes more challenging to migrant parents in Australia. As parents, they have to face and confront the conflicts & cultural clashes between Australian culture & Chinese traditional culture around parenting practices.
Furthermore, language can be another barrier, preventing parents from Chinese background who are limited with English from understanding the different approaches and expectations towards their children.
Anna Liu, ParentCalm director, has been working as a Chinese Family Support Worker at a Family support Services in Sydney region. She also works as a Community Liaison Officer working with Chinese parents at local schools. Anna completed Diploma at St George TAFE in Community Services. She was qualified and authorised by Parentshop PTY Ltd as the sole trainer of 123 Magic & Emotion Coaching Parenting Course in Mandarin in NSW.
As a migrant and the mother of two children, she was challenged by the huge differences between Australian and Chinese culture around parenting, education, expectations of the children and etc! She developed the Pilot Chinese Family Education Project which is highly regarded and welcomed by the local primary schools & high schools.
Through facilitating 123 Magic & Emotion Coaching Parenting Program in Mandarin in NSW, she has helped to reduce some conflicts around parenting practices that arise in migrant families from China.
Through running the Chinese Family Education Project in Mandarin at local schools, she has helped parents from Chinese background understand the public education system in NSW; encourage parents to promote a holistic approach & a balanced life for their children academically, physically & emotionally and explore how to prevent mental health illness from academic pressure.
Anna works with local schools through group work, engaging Chinese parents actively involving their children's school life
Her goal is to help the Chinese community maintain Chinese culture and absorb Australian culture in order to become the proud Chinese Australian citizen!
